Frann Setzer

Ms. Setzer practices exclusively in the area of family law, advising clients in complex custody, support and property matters related to dissolution, as well as post judgment proceedings, paternity actions, domestic violence issues and the drafting of premarital agreements. As a Family Law Specialist, Ms. Setzer sat for a second bar exam that focused solely family law and is certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.

Ms. Setzer has extensive experience in litigation as well as various methods of settlement. She approaches her cases with the belief that, while litigation is necessary at times, family law attorneys have an obligation to preserve relationships and conserve the client’s assets. In her experience, Ms. Setzer finds that using mediation, negotiation and collaborative techniques before resorting to litigation often achieves these goals. If litigation is necessary, Ms. Setzer knows the courts and is familiar with the judges.

In addition to utilizing her settlement skills on behalf of her clients, Ms. Setzer has completed 40 hours of specialized family law mediation training with Forrest “Woody” Mosten, one of the most well respected family mediation experts in the country. Ms. Setzer has completed specialized training in Collaborative Law Practice techniques as well. She is a frequent speaker at both Second and Third Saturday seminars and has been a speaker at continuing education programs on family law property issues.

Originally from New York City, Ms. Setzer graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton and earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from New York University’s Stern Graduate School of Business in 1990. She was accepted into California Western School of Law on partial scholarship and graduated in the top 25% of her class.

Ms. Setzer is a member of the California State Bar, the San Diego County Bar Association and the San Diego Family Law Bar Association. She is an active member of Lawyers Club, currently serving as Chairperson of the Scholarship and Law School Committee. When she is not working, Ms. Setzer spends time with family and friends and is an avid world traveler.
